Volkl’s Essenza skis are carving machines. They are primarily suited to tearing up the front side, so they would make a great ski for East Coast skiers of almost any ability level for skis to take all over the mountain. Their sidecut of 127-79-100 no slouch when it comes to trying your hand off piste. While it would be best suited to hardpack conditions in glades and bowls it has just enough width to keep you on top of a wee bit of powder too. Cap construction uses a sweet topsheet that is textured so it won’t show much wear as time progresses and they see some use. These Volkl skis have the widest sidecut of any skis within the North American Essenza line but a flex pattern that is a bit more forgiving than other Essenzas that approach their waist width.
Ideal Target Skier: Progressing Intermediate:This skier is pushing the limits of the intermediate badge, and getting off trail and figuring out how to get comfortable at higher speeds through variable terrain.
Ideal Target Skier: East Coast Hardpack Lover:This is an excellent ski for East Coast skiers that ski aggressively on the hardpack while still getting off trail a bit. West Coast skiers: this is a carving ski that should only be brought out when the powder is gone and its time to rip the groomers.
Speed: Moderate:The speed at which an intermediate skier travels, Moderate means they like to ski faster than beginners, but are never the fastest skiers on a run.
Wood Core:The standard core which has throughout time provided the best performance and durability. Each model may have it’s own density level to help define flex and maximum speed but every wood core ski will be solid.
Cap Construction:The topsheet of this ski drapes over the edge to form a clean and rounded finish to the side of the ski. This style of construction adds some torsional rigidity, and helps reduce topsheet chipping when the skis hit each other.
Textured Surface:Ideal for repelling wear and tear on the skis surface. Textured ski surfaces (aka snakeskin topsheet) are rough surfaces to the ski that hide or repel scratches keep your skis look new long after they are not. Originally designed for rental skis for obvious reasons, this surface is now available on a wide variety of retail skis as well since everyone likes their skis to look nice.
Tip Rocker:This refers to the early rising of the tip to get the ski on top of the soft snow, rather than pushing through it. When the skis are held with the bases together, it will look like the tips are bent, and spread away from eachother. Tip rocker also helps skiers pivot the skis, making tight trees remarkably easy, and gives the ski a surf-like feel.
Tip Protectors:Plastic protectors on the tip increase the durability of the skis and reduce the likelihood of a delamination. Your tips are the most likely edges to get cracked, keep ’em safe with tip protectors and your skis will last for a long long time. If the tip protectors get damaged, it is not as big a deal as if it were to happen to the actual skis themselves.
We can mount the bindings and set them up so they are ready to ski when they are shipped to you. All we need is you Skier Ability, Weight and Ski Boot Shell Length (it’s a little number on the bottom side of the boot heels in small, hard to read numbers in mm, that is different than the boot size).
